Running Farther Than I Planned
This was my first half marathon! (It was also my last half marathon.)
Years ago, a few of my former CMT colleagues invited me to go to Disney World and run a Star Wars half marathon. Training for that event—fueled not by a love of running but entirely by my love for Star Wars and my colleagues—is the most athletic thing I've ever done. That season put me in the best shape of my life and taught me so much about pushing through mental barriers to accomplish real results. It proved my body could do more than I thought it could.
What I remember most is not the 13.1 miles or hitting the goal, it's the pure and oftentimes silly comradery we had.
The memories throughout my life and career that stand out are those with people beside me when things get uncomfortable or ambitious. Because that's what makes the work fun! The best teams make hard things feel possible, and sometimes they even convince you to run farther than you ever planned to.
